What’s Next for the Houston Texans?

The Texans just locked up their third head coach in three years. DeMeco Ryan looks to turn a franchise around that has fallen on tough times. After winning their last season game, the Texans will hold the second pick in this year’s draft, and they also have the Brown’s selection due to the trade involving Deshaun Watson

What should the Texans do moving forward? This QB class is top-heavy, sporting four guys that can turn franchises in the right direction if taken by the right teams. The Texans will be amiss if they do not seize this opportunity to draft their franchise’s future.

Some view Bryce Young as a quarterback (QB) 1, but his size raises concerns. If Young is overlooked and falls to two, the Texans should scoop him up. If Young goes first overall, the Texans should select C.J. Stroud

Now that the Texans have found a franchise QB, it is time to give him some help. At pick 12, the Texans will choose the top wide receiver (WR) prospects. The Texans should strongly consider Quentin Johnston, as he would give them a big-body receiver to bail their QB out. If Johnston is gone, Jordan Addison would also be a good addition. If WR is not the route the Texans want to go come draft time, then selecting a corner to pair with Derek Stingley Jr. would be ideal.  Regardless of what QB and receiver the Texans decide to take, they will likely be in a similar position next year, which is okay. Next year, they will be able to draft Marvin Harrison Jr, who is used to catching passes from Stroud. A duo of Johnson and Harrison getting passes thrown by Stroud would set the Texans up for a future similar to the Bengals. The Bengals were in a similar position when they drafted Joe Burrow and Tee Higgins in one draft, then got Ja’Mar Chase the following year. The Texans have added excellent talent from the draft and should continue doing so. Currently, Houston is not a destination that free agents are lining up to visit. However, other players will recognize and want in if they continue building through the draft with young talent.
